(Business in Cameroon) - The fraud control and repression unit of Cameroon’s ministry of commerce has just seized an important quantity of infant milk produced by Lactalis and non-compliant vegetable oil which were being sold in markets without worries.

The operation which led to the seizures is consecutive to the revelation according to which some infant milks produced by Lactalis were contaminated. This information prompted Lactalis to recall those products from the French market. Idem for Cameroon’s ministry of commerce which took measures to withdraw the products involved from markets. Such measures resulted in the products seized since December 30, 2017.

As for the vegetable oils, their seizure was prompted by a statement of the Director General of Customs who revealed that Cameroon was flooded by vegetable oil unenriched with vitamin A, unlike what the Cameroonian law prescribes.

During the raid, operatives of the repression unit had effectively found vegetable oil from Promex, Evita, Jersey and Super délicieux, which are all non-compliant with the regulations, the vitamin A enrichment and labeling requirements notably.
