Fertilizer factory

Within the framework of the new agricultural policy dubbed "second generation", launched by the President of the Republic of Cameroon, the Government kicked off an extensive programme to boost agricultural production with a view to meeting the populations' food needs as well as those of agro-industries.
The success of this process entails the availability of agricultural inputs such as fertilizers; and for this reason, the authorities appealed to private businessmen for the construction of fertilizer factories.
According to the authorities, the construction of fertilizer factories in Cameroon will also serve to supply the extensive market of the Central African sub-region which does not yet have this type of industry. The ongoing process particularly seeks to select partners through the BO (Build and Operate) method for the study, construction and operation of a chemical fertilizer production factory in Cameroon using local raw materials. The operators thus need to give evidence of their experience, technology and financial means, for the construction of a factory likely to produce fertilizers in sufficient quality and quantity to supply the Cameroonian and sub-regional market. In a press release issued in February 2011, Prime Minister Philemon Yang explained that for these chemical fertilizer projects, the Government is prepared to work with any national or foreign company with solid experience in the design, construction and management of fertilizer production units and belonging to a consortium of companies with proven experience in the construction and exploitation of such units.
