(Business in Cameroon) - The Cameroonian authorities plan to select agricultural cooperatives from the Noun department in the West region to participate in the second phase of the Mont Mbappit Rural Development Project (PDRM-II), which will start in a few months.

This 5-year second phase follows the implementation of the first phase from 2006 to 2012. It will need 19 billion FCFA in financing. Of this total sum, 91% or approximately 17.7 billion FCFA will be provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), against 9% which is around 1.3 billion FCFA for Cameroon.

Projects to be developed in the framework of this project concern five agricultural products. Foumbot will undertake development projects for vegetable crops while rice farming will be developed in Koutaba and Bangourain.

The Malentouen farmers’ cooperatives and associations will be supported in the development of palm oil while Massangam will focus on cassava. Njimom, Kouoptamo and Magba will develop corn farming projects.
