Aquaculture: Fishery project to produce in 2015, 25 additional tons of fishes in Lagdo

(Business in Cameroon) - The campaign to promote aquaculture previously launched by Cameroon’s minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal industries in the communities of Gounougou, a village in Lagdo, located in the northern part of the country, just bare its first fruits. Indeed, as Minister Taïga recently went out on the field, it was found that the project produced a 16 tons of fishes output over a period of seven months after its commencement.

Forecasts by project’s heads, plan for two other production batches which are expected for October and December, with respectively four and five tons of output. This represents an additional 25 tons for Lagdo whose population usually practice capture fishery since the construction of the dam in that part of Cameroon.

With the 100 tons of fishes produced over two annual cycles, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga plans on decreasing the deficit in production in that region, as fishing is one of the main sources of revenues, with rice-farming, in the area.
