(Business in Cameroon) - On December 13, 2017, Kunio Okamura, Japan’s ambassador in Cameroon, was received in Yaoundé by the minister of trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana. During their audience, the Japanese diplomat revealed that some Japanese investors were interested in Cameroon’s cocoa because of its taste and therapeutic qualities.

"We know very well that Cameroon’s cocoa is of good quality. There are trading companies (in Japan) which are interested in that cocoaThis is the reason why I have come to meet with the minister of commerce to see how we can foster this opportunity. There are many possibilities. Consumers are more interested in premium cocoa”, M. Okamura explained.

Cameroon’s cocoa could thus find a new outlet, in Japan soon, besides European countries, mainly the Netherlands which is, so far, the destination of more than 70% of Cameroon’s beans.
