(Business in Cameroon) - On 12 September 2016, the Senior Management of the Internal Revenue Authority (DGI) of Cameroon introduced biometry in its taxpayer registration system. The first company to have joined this reform, we officially learned, is the Cameroonian subsidiary of insurance company Allianz, leader in the local market. This company thus got the very first biometric taxpayer number issued in the country.

Through its adherence with this reform, the marketing and communication services of Allianz Cameroun comment, “the group, at the forefront of new information technologies in all its subsidiaries throughout the world, once again shows its responsiveness as part of implementing formalities in this (new, Ed.) system by the Ministry of Finance of Cameroon”.

The new taxpayer registration system, which will be progressively rolled out, as explained by the Ministry of Finance, concerns, in a first stage, only taxpayers in the Major Companies Department (DGE), the Medium Enterprises Tax Centres and the Specialised Tax Centres in Yaoundé. A recommendation made by the Cameroon Business Forum (CBF), a permanent exchange platform between the government and the Cameroonian private sector, this reform, according to Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey, “will offer better security to users and contribute to significant improvement of the tax administration” throughout the country.
