(Business in Cameroon) - Cameroonian Customs officers have just seized a cargo of smuggled goods, with an estimated value of FCfa 310 million, we learned from credible sources. These are vehicles, wines and spirits unloaded in the city of Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, and meant for the local and sub-regional market.

As a reminder, Cameroon has over one thousand kilometres of porous borders with neighbouring countries such as Chad, Nigeria or the Central African Republic; which represent entry points for smuggled and counterfeit products in the country.

According to a study by the Cameroonian Employers’ Association (GICAM), the northern part of the country is the main area for smuggling and counterfeit, plagues which officially cause about FCfa 200 billion in losses for the country every year.
