The Kribi gas power plant

In the bid to address its energy deficit, which is the key impediment to its industrial development, the Cameroonian Government is currently implementing an extensive programme for the construction of energy production infrastructure by developing its hydro-electric potential and gas resources.
Within the framework of the energy programme launched by the Government, the hydro-electric dams of Lom Pangar, Memve'ele, and Mekin will be built alongside that of a gas power plant in Kribi. According to Government plans, the project is specifically meant to partially cover the energy needs of the industrial projects being prepared in the Edéa/Kribi zone. It consists in installing a 216 MW capacity gas-powered electricity plant and includes the construction of a 225 KV transmission line. The project's construction is expected to kick off in the months ahead. It is among the major energy projects expected to usher in the pioneers of independent energy production in Cameroon. With respect to the construction of the gas power plant, earthworks have begun and there are plans to mobilize some 150 billion CFA francs for the implementation of this project. These budding projects will be followed by the hydro-electric dams of 280 MW in Nachtigal; 900 MW in Song Mbengé ; 12 MW in Colomines ; 75 MW on the Birni in Warak, for which financial arrangements are being made.
