(Business in Cameroon) - The Cameroonian Minister of Employment and Professional Training, Zacharie Perevet (photo), announced during a conference held on 3 February 2016 in Yaoundé, the capital of the country, that 35,000 jobs will be created as part of the 2015-2017 three-year Emergency Plan launched by the government last year, to speed up the economic growth and improve living conditions for the population.

Implemented in the sectors of agriculture (distribution of seeds and creation of new trail roads), health (upgrading of technical centres of some hospitals), real estate (construction of 1,000 social housings in the ten regions of the country) and road infrastructure, this 3-year emergency plan will cost, according to the government’s forecast, FCfa 925 billion.

The job creation aspect of this plan is even more important since the unemployment, and particularly the underemployment, is a real thorn in the side of the Cameroonian public authorities. The unemployment rate is around 5% according to the International Labour Office, the underemployment rate in the country peaks at 70%, according to the Strategy Document on Growth and Employment (Dsce in French).
