(Business in Cameroon) - The customs department of the Extreme-North region of Cameroon collected, during 2015, a total of FCfa 1.7 billion in revenues, out of the FCfa 2 billion planned, which is equivalent to a recovery rate of 85%, we learned from official sources.
This performance was called an exploit by the regional administrative authorities, as the economic activity has been in slowdown for several months now in this area of Cameroon, due to exactions committed by the Nigerian Islamist sect, which are paralysing the local economy.
Moreover, many customs posts have even been destroyed or deserted in this area, due to the general insecurity. Indeed, out of the 600 customs agents posted to this region 18 months, only 260 remain.
