(Business in Cameroon) - How to successfully implement the major infrastructural projects aimed at modernizing the economic environment, without high local production and good cement market? The Government is striving to solve this equation by encouraging many businessmen to invest in the construction of a cement factory.

For the time being, two companies, Afko and Dangote have expressed their intention to locally produce cement in Cameroon, to complete the production by Cimencam which has two production units in Cameroon, Douala and Figuil in the north. For example, the Government embarks on the promotion of an integrated project for the construction of a cement factory in Mintom, Southern Cameroon. According to the Minister of industry, Mines and Technological Development, this involves the installation of a limestone extraction and processing factory to produce clinker, to supply existing local and foreign cement factories, or those to be set up. It is worth noting that geological research has highlighted the existence of high quality limestone beneath the River Dja in Mintom. Actually, the major raw material for clinker-making is limestone. «This project is being advertised and the Government is looking for technical and financial partners for its implementation », the Minister of Industry pointed out. Several regions of Cameroon abound in limestone, and the authorities hope to find a sustainable solution to the problem of supplying the local market, by facilitating the installation of several cement factories throughout the country.
