(Business in Cameroon) - This year, MTN Cameroun, leader of Cameroon’s mobile market, and the local subsidiary of Ericsson, the Swedish equipment manufacturer, collected and shipped 53 tons of electronic waste for recycling to South Africa. This, in the framework of a programme called “Product Take Back”, official sources revealed.

We think that it is important to take our responsibility for the elimination of our used equipment and, this programme was the best approach for this purpose. MTN commits to respect the three priority lines for sustainable development through the creation of a lasting economic value, the reduction of its environmental impacts and the input of a durable and ethical societal value”, Brahma Rudra Shankar, Chief Technical Officer of MTN Cameroon, said.

In addition to helping MTN Cameroon fulfill its daily commitments which are the reduction of our environmental impacts, this programme also has a positive effect on clients because, it helps them reduce the costs associated with the elimination of used electronic materials” he continued.

"In the framework of our global circular economy’s activities for the elimination of unused electronic materials, we are able to recycle 98% of these materials. We are delighted to collaborate with MTN, through this project, in order to create a sustainable future in Cameroon”, Olivier Vandermoten, managing director of Ericsson Cameroon said.
