(Business in Cameroon) - From 16-18 January 2018, experts from Cameroon and representatives of the European Union will continue the draft of a national action plan to enhance preparedness against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear security risks (CBRN) which was started in September 2017.

Erja Kaikkonen, the representative of the European delegation, explains that CBRN risks are threats to our societies in constant evolution. She also indicates that in case of nuclear terrorist attacks, epidemic or industrial accident, the consequences are disastrous. “The impact in terms of human losses is terrible in most of the cases with dramatic economic and environmental consequences” the diplomat adds.

For the participants, the national action plan is necessary for a better handling of the risks which require timely and wide varieties of measure. According to the EU, this political approach has three main goals. First, it helps identify the priorities and better allocate the available resources. Secondly, it provides a coordination framework to the various participants and finally, it represents a transparent basis to assess the performances.
