The Minister of Public Works has announced that his Ministry will redouble efforts to boost infrastructure development in 2014.
Minister Patrice Amba Salla said the priority action of the Ministry of Public Works in 2014 will be the building of the second bridge over River Wouri, Yaounde-Douala express road, giant road projects, farm-to-market roads and the head office of the ministry.
He made the declaration on the early hours of December 2, 2013 after defending the Ministry of Public Works’ budgetary allocation for 2014 in the Committee on Finance and Budget of the National Assembly to the tune of 262.592 billion F against 252.735 billion F in 2013.
The projects envisaged will be constructed with a public investment budget of 196.728 billion F against 184.000 billion F for 2013. The recurrent budgetary allocation ‘stands at 65.864 billion F registering a drop from the 68.735 billion F for 2013.

After the Deputy Director of Civil Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Joseph LE, visited the site last week, Public Works Minister, Patrice Amba Salla took the relay on Tuesday September 17, 2013.
Reports say Minister Amba Salla inspected ongoing work on the site by those constructing the tribunes as well as by the hygiene and sanitation company, Hysacam, which is working round the clock to keep the environment clean. Talking to the press, Mr Amba Salla, said work was progressing normally and that the calendar is being respected.
- The Head of State, Paul Biya, has reorganized the functioning of the Ministry of Public Works, allowing it to efficiently pilot infrastructure projects needed to catapult the economy to emergence by 2035.
The new organigramme contained in a Presidential decree of September 13, 2013 creates a department of infrastructure, which is supposed to partner with other structures in the construction of rail, ports (sea and air), energy, as well as environmental projects.
Another new department born out of the presidential decree is that of technical studies. Placed under a Director General, the department will serve as a reference point in matters of technical studies of projects. It is also to follow up the quality and cost as well as deadline of public works infrastructure in the country.
