(Business in Cameroon) - The Cameroonian subsidiary of the South African company, MTN, increased its bid to for a GSM licence renewal from the government along with 3G and 4G technology. This was revealed in local press reports.

The company’s bid climbed from 35 billion FCFA to 65 billion FCFA while the Cameroonian government, advised by the American and Cameroonian firm Maas Telecom, set the benchmark at 75 billion FCFA.

In addition, while the Cameroonian government requires 75 billion FCFA for a valid licence for a period of 10 years, MTN Cameroon wishes to extend this period by three years to bring it to 13 years, compared to 65 billion FCFA.

For its part, Orange Cameroon, which is also negotiating the renewal of its licence along with 3G and 4G services, is resting on its initial bid of 40 billion FCFA against the 75 billion required by the Cameroonian government. This bid should evolve in the coming days.
