(Business in Cameroon) - In a press release issued by its General Manager, Elisabeth Medou Badang (photo), Orange Cameroon apologised to consumers for the poor quality of its network for several weeks.
Elisabeth Medou Badang explains that the recent service lapses are due to work being done to expand the network. But beyond this technical work, a source at Orange has indicated that several additional factors are contributing to the service disturbance.
These include the country’s energy deficit which often results in service interruptions in some areas until back-up generators pick-up the slack. There is also the lack of roads which delays teams on the ground when attempting to make repairs or conduct maintenance.
“In the rainy season, as is currently the case, when rivers overflow their banks and cover the roadways of the Extreme-North region, there is no way of passing. We’re forced to make a wide detour of several hours to reach the affected sites,” stressed our source.
