(Business in Cameroon) - During the ceremony for the presentation of wishes for the new year, on 9 February in Yaoundé, Charles Ndongo, Managing Director of the National Radio and Television Office, Cameroon Radio & Television (CRTV), announced the launch of two new TV channels, in 2017.

According to Charles Ndongo’s explanations, one of the new channels will be exclusively dedicated to sports and the other will be a 24-hour news channel. The creation of these new media is in line with the CRTV policy kicked off since 2016 as it gets ready to move on to the digital era. This by shifting from “broadcasting” to “narrowcasting”. This means that the public channel will move from a wide broadcast open to the whole world to a broadcast more targeted to its viewership. Immediately afterwards, Charles Ndongo also announced the launch of a local radio in Kribi, the seaside town in Southern Cameroon, in 2017.

But we must also note that CRTV’s 24-hour news channel is already late with regards to the start of its activities. As it was announced by the former MD Amadou Vamoulké for the end of the first quarter 2016. Mr Vamoulké had even revealed last year that an anchor-person had been appointed. The former Managing Director had also announced that the next step would be an increase from about ten to forty channels.
