(Business in Cameroon) - After the SAT3, the second submarine fibre-optic cable connected to Cameroon, the WACS, should be operational starting July 1, 2015 now that Camtel has completed its construction of the fibre-optic connection between Limbe, where the WACS are grounded and Douala.
WACS was brought to Cameroon by a consortium of companies of which MTN International is a member, but, due to Cameroonian regulations granting exclusive fibre-optic rights to the public company, Camtel, MTN’s local subsidiary, which built the WACS grounding point in Limbe, had to sell the infrastructure to the government which, in turn, resold it to Camtel.
Measuring 14,500 km in length, the WACS is equipped with 5.2 Tbps of capacity for a wavelength of 40 gbps. Its launch will free-up the SAT3.
