(Business in Cameroon) - At the end of the 26th session of the Inter-ministry Committee for Railroad Infrastructure (Comifer), it was officially revealed that the upgrade works on 175 km of railroad between Batschenga (Central region) and Ka’a (Eastern region), and at the entrance of the cities of Douala and Yaoundé, have been completed at 80%.

These works, which were launched on 30 August 2013 in the town of Batschenga, then awarded to the companies China Railways Engineering and Bun’s, have been benefitting for several months now from the expertise of Camrail teams, the subsidiary of logistics company Bolloré and concessionaire of the Cameroonian railway.

The upgrade of the railroad between Batschenga and Ka’a, estimated at FCfa 9 billion, consecrates a technological mutation in the Cameroonian railway. This is the move from wooden railroad ties, to metal crossties and now reinforced concrete bi-block ties. The latter, we learned, have a service life of 30 to 40 years, against 15 years for the former.
