(Business in Cameroon) - Camrail, subsidiary of the French group Bolloré Africa Logistics in charge of managing the railroad in Cameroon, has entered a new phase of its activity with the commission of the electronic ticket platform. As soon as the test phase ends, the company indicates, customers will be able to purchase train tickets using an internet connection (computer, mobile telephone, etc.). A revolution which is in the same line with the purchase of tickets via mobile money through the telecoms operators (Orange and MTN). “This new payment method will enable travellers to gain substantial time (by avoiding queues at the ticket desks) and facilitate the access to InterCity train tickets”, indicates the Cameroonian railway company.

Camrail, who transports 1.5 million passengers and 1.65 million tons of goods per year, is the concessionaire of the Cameroonian railway since 1999. The company invests FCfa 12 billion on a yearly basis in maintain the railway infrastructure and equipment. It pays back on average FCfa 11 billion a year to the State of Cameroon in licence fees, taxes and duties.
