(Business in Cameroon) - The certified cocoa production in Cameroon during the 2015-2016 cocoa season could reach 30,000 tons, which is three times more than the 10,000 tons produced during the last season, Lionel Soulard (photo) revealed on 29 March 2016 in Yaoundé.

The Managing Director of Cargill Africa thus commented during the launch of the cocoa producer cooperative Academy in Cameroon by Telcar Cocoa, Cargill's trader in Cameroon, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

According to Lionel Soulard, the American firm Cargill, through Telcar Cocoa, is preparing to give to the Cameroonian producers of certified cocoa a bonus of about FCfa 1 billion for the current season. This against FCfa 400 million in 2014-2015 and FCfa 104 million in 2013-2014.

Thanks to the "Cargill Cocoa Promise" initiative, Telcar Cocoa is the main sponsor of cocoa certification in Cameroon with over 8,000 producers certified between 2011 and 2015. This trader is also planning to to enrol 10,000 other producers in the certification process in which during 2016.

Thanks to training programs introducing Cameroonian cocoa producers to certification implemented for some years now by traders such as Telcar Cocoa or Theobroma, the certified cocoa production has been increasing in the country. From 5,446 tons in 2013-2014, it reached 10,000 tons during the last season, an increase of more than 90%.
