(Business in Cameroon) - Launched in 2012, by the Cocoa and Coffee Inter-professional Council (CICC), the New Generation program, whose aim is to rejuvenate the cocoa-coffee plantations, as well as lowering the average age of the producers of these cash crops, enabled the creation of 234 hectares of coffee plantations, we officially learned.

These new plantations should help reach the targets set by the government and operators in the sector, in terms of coffee production. Indeed, by 2020, , as part of the cocoa-coffee sector stimulus plan, Cameroon hopes to reach a production of 150,000 tons for Robusta coffee and 35,000 tons for Arabica.

An ambitious project since, during the 2014-2015 coffee season, Cameroon produced only 23,865 tons of coffee, for all varieties mixed. Which represents a drop of more than 27%, compared to the 32,800 tons produced during the previous season.
