(Business in Cameroon) - The management of the Société des Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP), Cameroonian subsidiary of Compagnie Fruitière de Marseille, plan to have a revenue of FCfa 74 billion at the end of the 2016 tax year, we learn from reliable sources.
At the root of this optimism from the management of this agro-industrial unit, is the projected increase in the banana production, which the leader on the Cameroonian market estimates at 185,000 tons this year, in increase by 17,000 tons compared to 2015.
This optimism, we can analyse, is also supported by rise in price observed for the Penja white pepper, which moved from FCfa 5,000 to 16,000 since the certification of this spice by African Intellectual Property Organisation (Oapi). PHP produces roughly 40 tons of this spice per year.
A giant in the banana industry in Cameroon with close to 50% of the national production, PHP whose turnover increased throughout the years (it was FCfa 50 billion in 2010), is the result of the merger-acquisition of Société des Bananeraies de la Mbome (SBM), Société des Plantations Nouvelles de Penja (SPNP) and Plantations du Haut Penja (PHP).
