(Business in Cameroon) - In January this year, banana exporters in Cameroon shipped a total of 21,497 tons, the fruit association -Assobacam- reports. Figures showed shipments were more than 2,000 tons down the 23,536 tons the same period last year.

The lower volume is linked to the non-activity of CDC in recent years due to tensions in the Anglophone regions. However, the two other operators namely Plantations du haut Penja (PHP) and Boh Plantations have seen an increase in performances since the year started.

In detail, the local subsidiary of Compagnie fruitière de Marseille -PHP- exported 19,730 tons of banana in January 2019, an increase by more than 2,000 tons compared to the 17,333 tons shipped in January 2018. Exports of Boh Plantations jumped by 600 tons, peaking at 1,767 tons in January 2019, compared to 1,104 tons in January 2018.
