(Business in Cameroon) - During the third quarter last year, final consumption in Cameroon accelerated to 6.9% from 5.5% a quarter earlier. This was revealed in a recent report published by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Like in Q2, GDP growth in Q3 2018 was primarily driven by the final consumption, the document said. The strong 5.4 points contribution to GDP over the period under review was made possible thanks to 2.7 and 2.6 points contribution respectively by the private and the public final consumption. The bullish trend of the public final consumption was spurred by higher additional spending for security and the organization of presidential elections in October 2018.

Meanwhile, the increase in demand for secondary sector products (chemical industry products excluded) maintained the private consumption in its upward trend. Higher demands were observed for products from animal husbandry and fishing in the primary sector; products from agricultural processing, beverage industry, furniture manufacturing and textile industry in the secondary sector; and services of mobile telephony, scientific and technical professions in the tertiary sector.
