(Business in Cameroon) - During Q1, 2018, price indices of final consumption expenditure rose by 0.8%. This was revealed in the recent data published by the national institute for statistics INS.

According to the institute, the increase of the price of goods and services is the result of the rise of the stamp duty which was raised from CFA200 in 2016 to CFA600 in 2017 before it was slightly reduced to CFA500 in the 2018 finance law.

As for food products, the institute explains that the increase is the result of a rise of the fish and seafoods’ prices (3.4%) and that of bread and cereals (1.7%).

The report also indicates that the dynamic of the price index in the last 12 months is essentially the result of an increase in the price of goods and services (1.8%), drinks, tobacco and drug (1.1%), as well as that of housing, water, gas and electricity (1.0%).
