ECCAS hires an international consulting firm to improve the collection of membership fees

(Business in Cameroon) - During the council of finance and commerce ministers of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) held in Ndjamena, Chad on April 11, ECCAS ’s secretary general Allam-Mi Ahmad deplored the low contributions provided by the member states.

According to the man, more than ten years after this contribution was set, the member states do not comply with the rules set for an effective collection of this fee. In 2017 for instance, out of the CFA17 billion they expected to collect, only CFA1.8 billion was received (11% success rate).

Due to this, the economic community is faced with funding difficulties which are worsening over time.  Indeed, the community is no more able to meet its commitment to technical and financial partners. Also, it is unable to pay the annual subsidies it gives to the specialized institutions.

To find a solution to this, the secretary general recruited an international consulting firm to formulate proposals on ways to improve the collection of these fees. Let’s remind that the recruitment was co-funded by AFDB.
