(Business in Cameroon) - Between July and September 2019, Cameroonian loggers exported only 11,300 tonnes of logs to the European Union market. According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), these exports are down 20% year-on-year.

In Central Africa, this decline in log exports to the EU is also observed in countries such as the Central African Republic (-17% to 13 200 tons), the DRC (-35% to 10 600 tons) and Equatorial Guinea (-64% to 2 900 tons).

Although ITTO does not provide any explanation for this decline in log exports, it must be noted that the period under review corresponds to the rainy season, which is generally characterized by deteriorating roads. This makes it difficult to access areas where wood and many other agroforestry products are produced.
