(Business in Cameroon) - During the cabinet council held in Yaoundé on May 31, 2018, Cameroon’s Prime Minister Philémon Yang asked Gaston Eloundou Essomba, energy minister to submit the detailed agenda of the operationalization of SONATREL which should be operational this month, June 2018.

Prior to that detailed agenda, the energy minister informed that since the company was created in 2015, many activities have been organized for its full operationalization. For instance, Cameroon and SONATREL have signed two concession agreements for the transport and management network. In addition, feasibility studies have been conducted for investments in the electricity transport network.

Gaston Eloundou Essomba also revealed that in 2019, the energy production, transport and distribution master plan would be finalized and the ongoing reforms continued. An electricity market is expected to be created.

Let’s note that according to the program to upgrade the public electricity transport networks between 2016 and 2022, Cameroon will invest CFA800 billion. It will be helped in this endeavor by the World Bank.
