(Business in Cameroon) - The African Development Bank (AfDB) reveals in its recent report focused on Cameroon that between 2005 and 2015, the country’s electricity penetration rate has increased from 46% to 53.7% (a 7.7% increase).

According to the report, this was because up till 2012, the investments in the electricity sector were low. Since 2012, however, the country has launched the construction of at least three dams and hydroelectric plants.

The AfDB further informs that these infrastructures will improve electricity access to 2.7 million residents this year.

For the record, since its arrival in the Cameroonian electricity market in 2014, the British investment fund Actis (which holds most of the shares in ENEO) has facilitated the connection of 2 million new users to the national electric grid.
