(Business in Cameroon) - The General Manager of Tradex, Perrial Nyodog is the president while that of Total, Jean Pierre Battermann is the vice-present of the Cartel. The Water and Energy Minister, Basile Atangana Kouna was in Douala recently to install the new bureau for the cartel. Other members of the group are Gabriel Eteki, Accounts and Finance Manager at OiLibya, who is the treasurer while Biyong Biyong is the scribe of the bureau.

“GPP (Groupement des professionels du pétrole) aims at encouraging best practices in health, security and environment in the petroleum sector among its members,” explains Perrial Nyodog as the reason for the existence of the group.

In Cameroon, the petroleum sector saw a boom in 2000 with an entry of nationals into different activities of the sector especially distribution. For this reason the number of distributors jumped from three before liberalization to 44, and filling stations from 287 to 563 units.

Created in 1978, GPP counts six permanent members: Total, Corlay, Tradex, OiLibya, First Oil and Camgaz. As of December 31, 2012, GPP counts 391 filling stations of the 563 that is about 70% of the sales points in the country.
