Cameroon: Animal husbandry minister denounces increasing use of antibiotic in animal feed

(Business in Cameroon) - Cameroonian minister of livestock, fisheries and animal industries Dr Taiga (photo) said local breeders have a strong propensity to use antibiotics in animal feed. This was during a forum organized December 11 by the department in Yaoundé.

This practice, Mr. Taiga said, develops antimicrobial resistance in animals, thus exposing them to diseases that can kill entire herds. The forum on animal feed also made it possible to observe the gradual and worrying decrease in pasture land in the country, a reality that affects the quality of animal feed and, consequently, the quality of the meat produced and made available to consumers.
