(Business in Cameroon) - Today October 16, Cameroon’s Constitutional Council opened the contentious phase of the presidential election held October 7. The body’s 11 members will finally decide on 18 appeals for partial or total annulment of the election, for various frauds.

Today’s hearing was launched with an appeal from candidate Maurice Kamto (photo), who asked the Council to declare itself incompetent to rule on the electoral dispute, because of affinities between some of its members and the ruling party CPDM.

This first request has been declared inadmissible, for lack of status of the applicant, despite the presence of the candidate Maurice Kamto’s lawyers, of leading figures of the Cameroonian bar such as Yondo Black and Akéré Muna who was also a candidate in this election, before withdrawing in favor of Maurice Kamto.
