Cameroon : Local timber mills’ supply affected by weight limitation

(Business in Cameroon) - Recently, in Cameroon, timber processing plants have been experiencing supply problems, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) reveals in its latest sectoral report. According to the ITTO, these problems are caused by rain, which makes roads impassable, and the weight limit imposed for timber transportation.

Companies complain that the 25-tonne weight limit is seriously disrupting transport logistics and causing mills to run out of logs,” the ITTO indicates in its report.

In Cameroon, because of their usually heavy loads, logging trucks are considered the main destroyers of road infrastructures. So, the government has decided to impose weight limits to protect the roads.
