Cameroonian Finance Ministry to leverage social media for the Physical Counting of State Personnel Project

(Business in Cameroon) - As part of the consolidation of the budgetary savings expected following the Physical Counting of State Personnel (Coppe) carried out in 2018, the Ministry of Finance (Minfi) informs that it will pursue this operation in 2019, now including social networks.

“Denunciations of public officials who unduly receive salaries without working remain open,” Minfi says, stressing that “the communication lines set up for this purpose are permanently available, in particular by telephone call on 242 94 24 13 or 663 17 01 04; through the social networks Whatsapp and Facebook (fb.me/coppe2018) or by mail  This email address is being protected from spambots. Let’s note the department launched April 20, 2018, the operation aimed at “identifying and deleting from the State's balance sheet, all public officials who illegally continue to receive salaries, due to an unjustified absence, resignation or undeclared death”.

Results issued at the pre-litigation stage, which began on October 26, 2018 and ended January 4, 2019, showed more than 20,000 presumed fictitious officials out of a total of 310,000 agents. There were also 645 deaths with suspended balances with banks.

According to the Minfi, the Coppe project has already achieved monthly budgetary savings of XAF394.7 million, or XAF4.7 billion per year.
