(Business in Cameroon) - Cameroon’s off-budget arrears reached the cap of CFA6,000 billion in 2017. This was revealed by CAMERCAP, Cameroon’s think tank for research on economic and social policies set in the framework of the implementation of the economic program with IMF.

The think tank recommends the quarterly publication of the off-budget arrears and the amounts due in the past fiscal years. It also advises the country to end the accounting and budget transactions at the specified dates and regulate the expenditures.

Therefore, for a healthy fiscal policy, Cameroon should adopt some good practices like an external audit of the off-budget arrears (non-committed and without payment requests), CAMERCAP recommends. The country can then devise a capitalization scheme for the arrears’ sale on Douala Stock Exchange.
