(Business in Cameroon) - The president of CAF, the governing body of football on the continent, Cameroonian Issa Hayatou, who was seeking an 8th term this 16 March 2017 in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia was beaten during the election by Ahmad Ahmad, President of the Malagasy Football Federation.

The Malagasy candidate won 34 votes of the 54 voting African federations, against 20 votes for Issa Hayatou. The new president-elect of CAF apparently benefits from the support of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa), as well as being favoured by the President of the Nigerian Football Association, and most importantly, by current President of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), Gianni Infantino.

Regarding the Cameroonian candidate, who temporarily took the helm at FIFA, after the resignation of Sepp Blatter, he is credited with a record marked by the implementation, over almost three decades, of important reforms which enabled the African football to have a better influence at the world level.
