(Business in Cameroon) - On January 21, 2022, in Yaoundé, Huawei Cameroon handed prizes to the ten national winners of the 2021-2022 edition of its talent competition Huawei ICT Competition. Six of the winners are students of the National College of Post, Telecommunications and ICT (Sup'ptic), a partner institution of the Huawei ICT Academy program, which is an offshoot of the above-mentioned competition. For the 2021-2022 edition of the Huawei ICT Competition, Sup'ptic was awarded the prize for excellence.

The first two winners of the said edition came from the University of Douala. They received scholarships and cash prizes of XAF500,000 and XAF1 million. Along with other candidates, they will form two teams to represent Cameroon during the continental phase in February 2022.

"During the 2019-2020 edition, we won the 3rd global prize. This time, we expect the first world prize," said Professor Wilfred Gabsa, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education. The latter then reassured Huawei of "the full support of the government" of Cameroon, for the work that the company is doing in the development of ICT and the transfer of competence in Cameroon.

Indeed, during the global stage of the 2019-2020 edition, students from the University of Douala won third place. Those winners were also awarded during the January 21, 2022, awarding ceremony, along with the best teachers.

Speaking during the ceremony, Thomas Zhang, general manager of Huawei Cameroon, expressed his wish to see Cameroon shine once again on a global scale during the 2021-2022 competition. He also praised the support provided by MTN and Camtel, two telecom operators who joined the digital platform created by Huawei Cameroon to offer ICT training to the youth.

The Huawei ICT Competition was launched in 2015. It is the 3rd initiative launched in Cameroon by Huawei to promote the development of ICT. The first two are "Seeds for the future" and "Huawei ICT Academy". The latter program, conducted in Cameroon in partnership with eight universities and colleges, is the main program where most of the Cameroonian candidates for the Huawei ICT Competition come from.
