(Business in Cameroon) - Cameroonian customs at the Douala airport seized 55kg of drugs heading to the Philippines last September 22. Official sources said the narcotics were methamphetamines packed in 108 boxes.

The seizure occurred after a passenger of an Ethiopian Airlines flight presented several boxes as chocolate and African spices. A check by the airport border agents revealed the packages contained meth instead.

Drug trafficking has become rampant in Douala and Yaoundé airports in recent years. The phenomenon is on the rise because traffickers are said to have accomplices among airport agents. Sources also indicated that most of the arrests involved Ethiopian Airlines passengers, which is one of the largest African airlines.
