Cameroon: Mobile operators owe XAF10bn in royalties to telecom regulator

(Business in Cameroon) - Philémon Zo’o Zame (photo), head of Cameroon’s telecom regulatory authority, calls upon mobile operators namely MTN, Orange, Nexttel and Camtel to clear a debt of nearly XAF10 billion they owe in fines and royalties to the authority, Défis Actuels revealed.

Further details were not given, but it should be noted that at the end of August 2017, the telecoms regulator fined MTN, Orange and Nexttel, as well as the state-owned company Camtel, for breach of duty relating to subscriber identification and the use of radio frequencies.

In detail, MTN, Orange and Nexttel had each been fined at least XAF3 billion, and some of them face a one-year license reduction ; while Camtel was fined XAF300 million.
