(Business in Cameroon) - Despite the current boom in Cameroonian hotel sector, tourism will only account for just over 3% of GDP in 2028, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) revealed.

Indeed, according to the organization’s forecasts issued in March, “the direct contribution of tourism to GDP [of Cameroon] should increase by 4.8% per year, to reach CFA1,051.9 billion by 2028, 3.2% of GDP in 2028”.

This primarily reflects the economic activity generated by industries such as hotels, travel agents, airlines and other passenger transportation,” WTTC said.

These forecasts showed that by 2028, the contribution of tourism to GDP will be down that in 2013 when contribution was 4%. This was before the advent of the wave of expatriate kidnappings in the Far North tourist region, part of the country until now classified as a red zone by Western chancelleries.
