Beef price up XAF200 in Yaoundé, during Ramadan

(Business in Cameroon) - Beef eaters in Yaoundé have had to spend XAF200 more than usual to get a kilogram of meat in the last three weeks, reliable sources inform.

According to sellers, the price hike was spurred by strong demand that came with the Ramadan fasting. Prices in the Far-north, a major beef supplier, also went up since the fasting began.

The period is also marked by an increase in beef export to neighboring countries (Nigeria, Gabon, Chad and Equatorial Guinea) reducing local supply, and thus leading to higher prices.
