(Business in Cameroon) - For years now, only 30% of the capacity of Douala autonomous port’s waters and docks is used because of the shipwrecks in the port. This was revealed by Cracite Menyé, the port's dredging and logistics manager.

For instance, only 15,000 m2 of the 400,000 m2 fishing harbor can be used. In addition, 600 m of the 2,000 meters dock can be used”, revealed Jean Ernest Ngallé Bibéhé, the minister of transport, on June 4, 2018, during the official launch of the shipwreck removal project.

In the same wake, Cyrus Ngo’o, the port’s director, revealed that because of these shipwrecks which were accumulated in the port for about three decades, 30% of the port’s resources are affected.

In that regard, the port’s management hired the Italian company Bonifacio to remove those shipwrecks.
