(Business in Cameroon) - The long awaited list of companies shortlisted for the concession of the Douala port container terminal was finally unveiled on January 8, by Cyrus Ngo’o, Managing Director of the Douala Autonomous Port (PAD).
The five companies selected following the international call for bids launched January 12, 2018 include Marseille-based (France) CMA Terminals, Emirati Dubaï Port World, Hutchison Port Investments Ltd registered in the Cayman Islands, Saudi Red Sea Gateway Terminal and Terminal Investment Ltd headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
The new list thus excludes Bolloré-APM Terminals, the platform’s current operator (via joint venture Douala International Terminal, DIT) whose concession contract ends in December this year, though the consortium bidded for a contract renewal.
Sources said various government hierarchy levels contributed to establish this list. First step was bid opening by officials of the Douala Autonomous Port; a step that resulted in a first shortlist of four companies including DIT (Bolloré-APM Terminals), Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), Port of Singapore Authority (PSA International) and Dubai Ports World (Dp-World).
A list review however finally led to the exclusion of Port of Singapore Authority (PSA International) and DIT (Bolloré-APM Terminals) but the inclusion of CMA Terminals, Red Sea Gateway as well as Terminal Investment Ltd.
