(Business in Cameroon) - Thomas Owona Assoumou, director of Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC) announces that Douala airport (that some people claimed to be closed because of its state) will be renovated soon. According to the director, this renovation work is the second phase of the two phases funded by a non-sovereign guaranteed loan of €46 million ( about CFA30 billion) granted by the French Development Agency in 2015. During the first phase realized in 2016, the aeronautical pavements were renovated.

This time, it is the passenger terminal which will be renovated and reconfigured. In that regard, the company consultation file has been transmitted to the French Development Agency for its non-objection opinion. Once the Agency approves the file, a limited international call for tender will be launched (before the end of April 2018).

Let’s remind that in February 2018, the association of Douala airlines companies sent a mail to Thomas Owona Assoumou complaining about the poor maintenance of the Douala airport. In the mail, they denounced the repulsive dirtiness, the worn paints, the crumbling walls, the bad conditions of the toilets and the dirty ceilings. The minister of transport then gave a two-week notice to the director of ADC to find solutions to these problems.
