(Business in Cameroon) - The Consumer Products Supply Regulation Mission (MIRAP) plans to build infrastructure “that will enable the extension of the preservation deadlines” for agricultural consumer products, according Bamzok Ntol, Managing Director of the organisation that was created following the hunger riots that rocked the nation in February 2008.
The MIRAP project will help to reduce “post-harvest losses currently estimated at close to 25% […] If we can bring them down to 5%, producers will earn more money and be more motivated. And consumers will also have, thanks to MIRAP, products that are more permanently available,” stated MIRAP’s Managing Director.
In addition to the lack of storage infrastructure in the country’s production areas, the post-harvest losses are also due to the difficulties producers have getting their produce to town due to their isolated location and the poor condition of rural roads.
