(Business in Cameroon) - Government via the Agropole programme and the federation of fish farmers in Bankim (locality in Adamawa region) called SOCOPAM have put together 530 million francs CFA to increase the fish output from 453.6 metric tons per year to 1,814 tons, indicates the state-owned daily, Cameroon tribune.

Agropole will provide 225 million francs CFA to be used for fishing equipment, construction of fish centre, wharf, borehole at Biamo village (fish farming locality), 11km road from Bankim to Biamo, rehabilitation of a cool store, and fish rearing cage at Mapé dam.

On the other hand, the federation thanks to a local microfinance institution, Rural Investment Credit raised 305 million francs in counterpart funding.

Reports say fish harvested in the Mbam and Mapé rivers by over 10,000 fish farmers is sold in the West, North West, Centre, Adamawa regions and Nigeria.

The State of Cameroon through the Agropole program supports a beneficiary organ against counterpart funds. Bankim benefits from this initiative after Bomono in the Littoral region and Kribi in the South region.
