(Business in Cameroon) - Telcar Cocoa, the Cameroonian trader owned by the firm Cargill, distributed on 7 September 2016 in Obala, a major cocoa production area in the country, premiums to certified cocoa producers, for the 2015-2016 season, which was closed in July. The cheques given to the producers carry a global value of close to FCfa one billion, we officially learned.

This is the 3rd consecutive year where the local trader of Cargill pays premiums to certified cocoa producers in the country, thus bringing the overall total of bonuses made available to the producers to FCfa 1.5 billion to date.

Indeed, on 4 September 2014, a little over FCfa 104 million in premiums were distributed to 500 certified cocoa producers in Muyuka, in the South-West region. In Kumba, still in the same region of Cameroon, 5,000 certified cocoa producers received cheques amounting to FCfa 400 million in total. This was on 23 September 2015.

Leader in cocoa export in Cameroon, with approximately 30% of the volumes, Telcar Cocoa is also the main sponsor of certified cocoa in the country, alongside Sic Cacaos, subsidiary of Barry Callebaut, and AMS, subsidiary of the Dutch company Theobroma.
