(Business in Cameroon) - Faced with a noted delay in progress in the construction works of the 60-place Olembe stadium, in the suburbs of Yaoundé, in the framework of the organisation of the 2019 football AfCON to be held in Cameroon, the company Piccini, awarded this contract worth FCfa 163 billion, seeks to be reassuring.

During a press conference it organised in the premises of the Italian embassy in Yaoundé, the management of this company promised that Olembe stadium would be handed over in the month of September 2018. This is to say in just slightly more than 13 months, but above all four months before the beginning of AfCON 2019.

These assurances occur against a backdrop of rumours of a potential withdrawal of the organisation of the important event of African football from Cameroon, due to delays observed in the related infrastructure works. In order to make up for these delays, Piccini had already advised, last May, that Olembe stadium would be constructed from prefabricated materials.

Besides the Olembe stadium, there are also concerns about the rehabilitation of Garoua stadium, the only stadium in the northern part of Cameroon selected to host AfCON 2019, where two Maghreb countries (Algeria and Morocco) should start off their tournament.
