(Business in Cameroon) - Anyone living in Cameroon, has had to taste, at least once, a beignet-haricot-bouillie, says Idriss Nguepnang, CEO of Tchop et Yamo (meaning eat and enjoy in the local english), first Fast food chain of Cameroon. This thought which the business man recently mentioned on the TV show Réussite, is what drove him 3 years ago to start commercializing the Cameroonian meal in modernized spaces.
Indeed, The Tchop et Yamo shops, present in Yaoundé and Douala, have raised beignet-haricot-bouillie (BHB) from its status as a street meal to a meal now served in modernized and well decorated places which even have wifi. Since the opening of these spots, the meal has considerably gained in popularity up to the extent that the head of Tchop et Yamo plans for an exponential expansion.
It is through Réussite that it was revealed that Idriss Nguepnang intends on opening a spot every three month over 8 years; thus making a total of 32 shops with 20 employees each. Expansion plans for Tchop et Yamo should therefore result in the creation of more than 500 jobs over the next decade against its actual 70 paid staff.
To achieve this goal, the owner of the Cameroonian McDonald’s is currently negotiating an IPO with Société africaine de participation (SAPA). SAPA is a company that invests in promising companies and projects. The company is headed by Cameroonian bank Afriland First Bank.
